Today's Taylor Swift's song is the meaning of "Lover" from album "Lover".
Let me just say this is one of my favorite songs from Taylor Swift ever!!! It is the perfect slow dance, wedding song. It really shows what it means to love someone. I am also glad that she is not afraid to make slow songs anymore. Did Scott tell her she could not if she wanted to be pop? It is the song I have been waiting years for!
Who is this song about?
It is about Taylor and Joe Alwyn's relationship. It has completely evolved from her unsure days of "Reputation".
It is official. Taylor Swift is redefining the term lover officially. Just like she redefined the year 1989. How is she redefining "Lover"? Lover typically means a taboo relationship, either a fling, affair something not permanent. From this song "Lover" we see the new definition of Lover. It means to love someone completely...to "be this close...forever and ever." Lover is committing to someone else, starting a new life together and loving them forever.
In this song she first talks about the freedom that comes from being on her own with her new "lover". They can leave the "Christmas lights up 'til January." They "make the rules." They live together, "let our friends crash in the living room." They are starting their new life together making their own traditions.
Without mentioning the word marriage she talks about all the elements of marriage, making this a perfect wedding song. She mentions loving Joe "three summers" but now she wants "them all". In the third verse it sounds very much like a wedding. "Ladies and gentleman, will you please stand?" What do people do at a wedding? "I take this magnetic force of a man to be my lover" sounds very much like the vow to enter into marriage. Then she mentions Her "heart's been borrowed and yours has been blue". It is traditional to wear something borrowed and blue at a wedding.
Are Joe and Taylor engaged or married? This would be a perfect wedding vow. I could totally see Taylor singing it at her wedding. Only time will tell, but they are definitely committed to one another and very much in love. I am sooooo happy for her.
