"The Archer" Song Meaning

Today's Taylor Swift song is the meaning of the song "The Archer" from her album, "Lover".

Taylor teased this as track five, a track usually known on her albums as being very emotional and ballad like, "All Too Well", "'Delicate", and "Dear John". Does it compare to "All Too Well"? Unfortunately no...It has a cool 80's sound reminiscent of Stranger Things, but it is super soft and melancholy. It is a great song, but never reaches the full ballad belt it out I want it to. I kept waiting and waiting for it to climax, but it never did.  The lyrics are great however. They are super deep. It really shows Taylor in a vulnerable state.

Who is this song about?

"The Archer"is reflective song about Taylor's perception of herself. It references her boyfriend Joe Alwyn and "enemies" that "started out friends".  One famous friendship is Karlie Kloss who apparently started telling Scooter Braun about Taylor's career. She also sings about the loss of their friendship in "This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things". Taylor has had some beef with Scooter Braun. Just recently he bought Big Machine Records and owns all of Taylor's old masters. (She is going to re record them though). He manages a number of people, Demi Levato, Justin Bieber, Karlie Kloss and many more. He was involved in the incident with Kayne West and Taylor. He is not famous but in the background of all the action. For Karlie to leak information to him is wrong.

Taylor doubts herself in this song, but also shows her strength. It is perfectly illustrated in the line, "Who could ever leave me darling?/But who could stay?". She realizes that friendships are "easy they come/easy they go". "They see right through me." "I hate my reflection/for years and years". No one is perfect and everyone makes mistakes. I know I do. There are friendships that are over for one reason or another because of mistakes I have made. She knows that she has "been the archer", she has instigated wars, ie with Katy Perry. But she has also "been the prey", all the drama with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. She however does not want to end up alone, "all my heroes/die all alone".

She worries that Joe will leave her, "Can you see right through me?". She wonders if he will stay. But she gains her confidence. "Combat/She's ready for combat". She realizes that he is going to stay, "you could stay".

I am so glad for this song. The lyrics are beautiful and telling. It is a sad world and unfortunately not isolated to celebrities. There are so many times in life that people go in and out of my life. All of the sudden I check facebook and we are no longer friends. I think it is important to recognize those people that will stay no matter what and treasure those friendships. And who will love one another no matter the flaws. After all everyone is always growing. No one is perfect. There is really no time in life to spend energy on people that do not want to be friends. I am so glad that Joe and her other friends are sticking around. Those people are so worth it.

"Lover" Song Meaning

Today's Taylor Swift's song is the meaning of  "Lover" from album "Lover".

Let me just say this is one of my favorite songs from Taylor Swift ever!!! It is the perfect slow dance, wedding song. It really shows what it means to love someone. I am also glad that she is not afraid to make slow songs anymore. Did Scott tell her she could not if she wanted to be pop? It is the song I have been waiting years for!

Who is this song about?

It is about Taylor and Joe Alwyn's relationship. It has completely evolved from her unsure days of "Reputation".

It is official. Taylor Swift is redefining the term lover officially. Just like she redefined the year 1989. How is she redefining "Lover"? Lover typically means a taboo relationship, either a fling, affair something not permanent. From this song "Lover" we see the new definition of Lover. It means to love someone completely...to "be this close...forever and ever." Lover is committing to someone else, starting a new life together and loving them forever.

In this song she first talks about the freedom that comes from being on her own with her new "lover". They can leave the "Christmas lights up 'til January." They "make the rules." They live together, "let our friends crash in the living room." They are starting their new life together making their own traditions.

Without mentioning the word marriage she talks about all the elements of marriage, making this a perfect wedding song. She mentions loving Joe "three summers" but now she wants "them all". In the third verse it sounds very much like a wedding. "Ladies and gentleman, will you please stand?" What do people do at a wedding? "I take this magnetic force of a man to be my lover" sounds very much like the vow to enter into marriage. Then she mentions  Her "heart's been borrowed and yours has been blue".  It is traditional to wear something borrowed and blue at a wedding.

Are Joe and Taylor engaged or married? This would be a perfect wedding vow. I could totally see Taylor singing it at her wedding. Only time will tell, but they are definitely committed to one another and very much in love. I am sooooo happy for her.

"ME!" Song Meaning

Today is the meaning of the Taylor Swift song "ME!" released on April 26, 2019 from an unknown album.
This 7th new era of songs for Taylor comes on the end of her snake phase, THANK GOODNESS. At the beginning of the song there is a snake but it gets turned into beautiful butterflies. This new phase for Taylor is definitely going to be different, brighter and happy.

She sings this song with Brendon Urie from Panic At the Disco on the music video, but it is not about him. What is this song about?
It’s about her relationship with Joe Alywn. In the song we learn they fight in the rain, Taylor goes “psycho” on the phone and all the ladies would want Joe. But Taylor has him even with all her weird quirks. Isn’t that true for most relationships? One person is always the quirky one and that is definitely me. :)

The songs deeper level highlights that two people are not necessarily soulmates, "you're the kind of guy the ladies want", and acknowledges problems in a relationship, "psycho on the phone, I never leave well enough alone, and I tend to make it about me." But in the end that does not matter as much as how much they love one another for being themselves. "You're the only one of you/I'm the only one of me" and "I promise that nobody's gonna love you like me." It is important in relationships to accept each others faults and love them for who they are. Because there’s no awesome without me. Everybody is special for their own reasons. And they need to work together there's no "I in team". They will love each other like no one else ever will.

I love this song for Taylor. I’m so glad she has found Joe and they make one another happy. I CAN NOT wait for the rest of the album! It sounds like it will be so happy! How about you? Are you excited?

Check out 10 Things we learn from her new music video.

(By the way I think Joe gave her another cat and might have proposed...)
